Find Your Wings

When our oldest daughter graduated from university this past August, it was such a bittersweet moment for me.  Despite being the beautiful, smart, hard-working and determined young woman that she is, so ready to take on the world, I realized that I was not ready to let her go.

Graduation is a way of celebrating the past while preparing for the future.  It marks the end of one chapter in our lives and the beginning of another.

Celebrating beginnings and ends, allows us to acknowledge our accomplishments while clearing the path to new accomplishments and challenges.

As she returns home, without us, to begin her life on her own, the fear of losing her begins to resurface. However, I know that I must let go in order for her to grow.  So to my wonderful daughter:
   

                                        I pray that God will fill your heart with dreams

                                        And faith gives you the courage 

                                        To dare to do great things

                                        I'm here for you whatever this life brings

                                        So let my love give you roots 

                                        And help you find your wings.

                                        It's not living if you don't reach for the sky

                                        I'll have tears as you take off

                                        But I'll cheer as you fly.

Storms

A little girl walked to and from school daily. Though the weather that day was more questionable and clouds were forming, she made her daily trek to the elementary school. As the afternoon progressed, the winds whipped up, along with thunder and lightning. The mother of the little girl felt concerned that her daughter would be frightened as she walked home form school and she herself feared that the electrical storm might harm her child.

Following the roar of thunder, lightning, like a flaming sword, would cut through the sky. Full of concern, the mother quickly got into her car and drove along the route to her child's school. As she did so, she saw her little girl walking along, but at each flash of lightning, the child would stop, look up and smile. Another and another were to follow quickly and with each the little girl would look at the streak of light and smile.

When the mother's car drove up beside the child she lowered the window and called to her.

"What are you doing? Why do you keep stopping?"

The child answered, "I am trying to look pretty, God keeps taking my picture."

Fajitas Anyone???
